What is our country’s role in the world? How does our foreign policy affect trade, migration, conflict and environmental issues? How are the political and social trends in our nation reflected around the globe?  

Great Decisions is America's largest discussion program on world affairs.  The course model involves reading the Great Decisions Briefing Book on your own (approx. 15 pages a week), watching a 30 minute documentary together then discussing what we have learned. This 10 week course, created by the Foreign Policy Association to educate the public about current events, includes the following topics for 2022:

  • Mandatory Orientation -- Monday, May 2, 11:30am-1:00pm (course materials will be distributed at this time)
  • Changing Demographics -- Monday, May 9, 11:30am-1:00pm
  • Outer Space --Monday, May 16, 11:30am-1:00pm
  • Climate Change -- Monday, May 23, 11:30am-1:00pm
  • Russia and the U.S. -- Monday, June 6, 11:30am-1:00pm
  • Myanmar and ASEAN -- Monday, June 13, 11:30am-1:00pm
  • Quad Alliance -- Monday, July 11, 11:30am-1:00pm
  • Drug Policy in Latin America -- Monday, July 18, 11:30am-1:00pm
  • Industrial Policy -- Monday, August 1, 11:30am-1:00pm
  • Biden's Agenda -- Monday, August 8, 11:30am-1:00pm

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED!  Registration will open the week of January 3, 2022 via the Summit County Library website or by contacting Shaylee at sphelps@summitcounty.org or 435-615-3902.  All participants must have an active Summit County Library card.  Library cards are free for Summit County residents/employees and $25/year for nonresidents. Class size is limited to 30 participants, first come first served.

All classes will be held in the Auditorium of the Kimball Junction Branch Library, and we ask that participants commit to attending a minimum of 6 classes in addition to the Mandatory Orientation.  Class participation and diverse viewpoints are welcome!  Please contact Shaylee at sphelps@summitcounty.org if you have any questions.
