The History Book Club will be meeting in-person and on Zoom at the Kimball Junction Branch in Room 133 (downstairs by the DMV). The selection for this meeting is Sisters in Science: How Four Women Physicists Escaped Nazi Germany and Made Scientific History by Olivia Campbell. The book is available to check out from the library. The audiobook is also available to check out on Libby.
Synopsis: In the 1930s, Germany was a hotbed of scientific thought. But after the Nazis took power, Jewish and female citizens were forced out of their academic positions. Hedwig Kohn, Lise Meitner, Hertha Sponer and Hildegard Stücklen were eminent in their fields, but they had no choice but to flee due to their Jewish ancestry or anti-Nazi sentiments.
If you register for the event, you will be sent the Zoom credentials the day before via email.
Fun picture books, songs, and activities with your favorite librarians, plus a simple craft! For all ages.
All Summit County Library branches will be closed on Monday, May 26 for Memorial Day. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, May 27.
David A Jacinto's Where Eagles Fly Free, the second installment in the Courageous Series, is a sweeping historical epic that chronicles the true and tumultuous journey of Thomas Wright and his young wife Annie. They leave the British Isles behind for the promise of freedom in post-Civil War America.
This event will be held at the Ledges Event Center and light refreshments will be served.
